Externally Pressurized
Externally
Pressurized expansion joints are designed so that the pressure is external to
the convolutions.Ý This type of construction eliminates squirm, thus long axial
movements are made possibleÝwhich could not be accommodatedÝwith an internally
pressurized expansion joint.Ý The Externally Pressurized expansion joint is
normally installed near an anchor at one end of a long piping run.Ý This type of
joint combines all the advantages of a slip joint, while eliminating
disadvantages such as maintenance, lubrication, or
repacking.
